I have only been article marketing for a day or two over two months now, but I am a complete and total convert.

I was looking for a way to bring traffic to my website other than relying on the fast but expensive route of pay per click, or the free but slow method of search engine optimization. I use both of those, but when I read about article marketing it seemed to suit me perfectly.

Here's why:

• I love writing. I have always wanted to write, ever since I used to get good grades for my work in English. Like many people in younger life, I have started many novels, but never finished one. Now, with the web, I can write to my heart's content and actually find an audience at no cost to me.

  I typically average about one to two articles per day and each one only takes me about twenty minutes. Once I have decided my topic, chosen the structure and format; putting the words and ideas together is a quick process. A few minutes more to upload the piece to an article directory and Hey Presto, I'm a published author.

• There is always an audience on the web. If I had actually finished one of those novels I started, it is highly unlikely that I would have ever had it published. They do say that for every book published, a thousand manuscripts are rejected, maybe more.

  On the internet, I don't have to deal with publishers, editors or chain-store book buyers; I simply create a free account at an article directory and publish away to my heart's content. And my readers find me. My work appears in e-zines, search results and on relevant websites. Readers like what they read, click my links and come to my website.

• It costs me nothing. In return for a small amount of effort and a lot of personal pleasure, my articles sail off across the vast seas of the web all on their own, telling tales of me and my interests all over the world.

  They sail into foreign ports and encourage distant people to share my experiences, knowledge and fascinations and all for free. I love every minute of it.

Wikipedia defines WordPress as a web publishing system (a.k.a. content management system) written in PHP and backed by a MySQL database. The downside is managing the software on your hosting account which can cause added stress and take some time to maintain.

All you need to do is log in with a username and password to use the service. You will not receive backlinks to your direct domain but you will create backlinks to the blog you are working on. One other issue is the host can pull the plug on your blog at any time so be sure to have some back up of the material at least if you are forced to move.

Blogs can target specific keywords for Search Engine Optimization just as traditional web pages can. The benefit of article marketing versus a web page is content pure and simple. The blog is an ongoing listing of your articles one right after the other. If your blog is full of articles on one particular niche you are likely to use the same keywords throughout various articles. Your blog will be full of good information with keywords scattered through it appropriately instead of concentrated for SEO benefit.

Your blog can all be distributed through RSS feeds. Think of an RSS feed like an email list. If you have a number of people who find your blog worth while they will add it to their feed service. When your blog gets updated your RSS feed will send it out to your subscribers. How cool would it be to have your blog feed to thousands of RSS feeders and all you need to do is add content.

Word press makes it really easy to tag your blog. Tagging a blog means that your keywords are tagged and picked up by popular pinging services like technoratti. A tagged blog is more readily available for users searching for your particular content. Tagging a wordpress blog is extremely simple. Create categories based on your keywords. When you publish your articles on your blogs select the specific categories that related to your articles. As you create more keyword rich content create more categories. You will see a solid spike in traffic based on tagging alone.

Get instant traffic to your blog with a pinging service. Pinging is the act of letting other content sites know you have new information on your blog. What Do I Write About?

Writing articles is not as difficult as you think. Think what your customers need to know about your products and you should easily be able to come up with ten or even more ideas about the articles you can write about.

Here are a few tips you can apply when planning to write articles:

1.If you do not know where to start, then go to where the money is.

Research for niches that are highly marketable and be creative. For example, we all know that 'golf' is a very popular word online. Everybody who's everybody else has written about that niche. So be creative. Look for long-tail keywords pertaining to that niche. Long-tail keywords are keywords which are more than 2 or 3 words long. 'Golf training', for example is a long-tail keyword, so is 'golf balls and clubs'. Write anything which are golf-related, but golf itself. You can easily write 10 articles from that niche itself.

2.Go to forums in your niche.

Look closely at the questions being asked. Supply the answer. A glass of water to a thirsty crowd is very very valuable!

3.Go to the best article directories

Get some ideas for articles from articles that are already there. Do not copy, but get some ideas from articles that are already written and accepted by these article directories.

4.Go to your competitors' websites, or websites that provide complimentary products to yours.

Check the information there. If they have great content, re-write their content into articles in your very own words. Remember this is research.

5.Look for ideas in blogs pertaining to your niche.

Use your main keywords and the term 'blog'. Have a feel of what people are talking about in your niche. If they have questions, answer them. Simple as that.
